Parent Coaching
Through a series of coaching conversations, either by telephone or in person, we help you design your parenting for consistent family success. We provide the tools for managing discipline, reducing conflicts and gaining more confidence in your parenting skills.
Grief
Recovery®Outreach Program
This 10-12 week class or seven week one-on-on individual program provides a safe environment to look at old beliefs regarding loss. We consider what other losses have affected your life and take new actions that lead to completion of the pain attached to a recent loss, or to one that occurred long ago. This is an educational workshop, rich in skill building, not an occasional drop-in group. We use The Grief Recovery Handbook by John W. James and Russell Friedman as our text.
Individual Psychotherapy
Individual therapy, the most popular treatment mode, offers an opportunity for confidentiality, intense attention to self-exploration, and one-on-one grief work. We use a combination of orientations, including cognitive-behavior therapy, short-term solution oriented therapy, and the Grief Recovery model.
Couples Counseling
Many problems surface in the context of a relationship. We use a behavioral model and focus on identifying and resolving problems as well as mediating disputes that inevitably arise in a relationship. This treatment mode helps couples understand clashes of meaning and misunderstood communications.
Family Therapy
Family systems often suffer from boundary problems, poor information flow, and differing assumptions about an individual’s role in the family structure. Again, we work toward problem solving. Often, when each family member feels that he or she is listened to, problems quickly resolve themselves.
Parenting Classes
“Parenting Teens” is a 5-week class covering the following critical skills:
- Connecting with teens,
- Discussing the developmental tasks of teenagers,
- Monitoring your teen,
- Assisting your teen with developing psychological autonomy,
- Helping teens deal with peer pressure.
“Parenting Skills” is an 8-week course devoted to listening skills, engaging a child’s cooperation, problem-solving techniques, alternatives to punishment, sharing control, applying logical consequences and parenting styles.
All parenting courses teach effective strategies for family rules, developing family values, creating a sense of stability for the child and modeling the six traits of a mature person (patience, cheerfulness, honesty, kindness, humility, and forgiveness).
